FRIENDS OF THE UPPER TAMPA BAY REGIONAL LIBRARY CHAPTER www:uppertampabaylibary.org
The next Friends of the UTB Regional Library Chapter Meeting will be on Wednesday, February 5th starting at 7:00 P.M. at the Westchase Swim and Tennis (10405 Countryway Blvd).
We encourage all UTB Area residents who are interested in their future UTB Library to attend, and bring your ideas and suggestions. Our guests will be the Hillsborough County Architectural Department and the Architectural Design Committee. They will be bringing the latest design drawing for the future UTB Library Building for you to look at, and there will be few changes made from here on in due to time constraints. We have also invited the Director of Library Services and the Library Board to attend.
This will be an important meeting regarding the Architectural drawings for the UTB Library. We have been informed by Hillsborough County Architectural Dept. that we are now down to one design (#3) because of the cost of adding an alternate design and time restraints. The existing 10,000 sq. ft. drawing will have an added alternate construction design of 5,000 sq. ft. An overall Library Comprehensive Study will be presented on needs and costs at the March 19th BOCC meeting for review and discussion. If additional funding is approved in March by the BOCC, then the County can proceed with construction using the alternate design drawing with the expansion.
We have requested that the new drawing show the actual square footage for the rooms to give us a general idea of the exact size of each room. Even with the additional space, it appears that only 400 sq. ft. extra might be all that can be added at this time to the Children’s area because of mechanical rooms and other supportive spaces (bathrooms, hallways, etc.) that also need to be enlarged. At this time the Children’s area is designated at 1200 sq. Ft., and we have stated that it still needs to be larger for the population in this area.
We look forward to seeing you at the February 5th meeting, and we hope you encourage some of your neighbors and friends in the UTB area to attend.
